As VISION2025, we’re committed to reducing emissions and waste across all our events.
With our congress organizer, OIC Group – ISO 20121 certified and carbon neutral company – we are moving on to make significant strides toward a more SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

And you, as participant, what can you do?

APPROPRIATE CONTAINERS
Dispose of waste correctly by using appropriate bins. Reuse the materials available to you in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.

DON’T WASTE FOOD
Food is a precious commodity; let’s try to not waste it. In addition, surplus food generated by the conference will be donated to non-profit organizations that support the disadvantaged.
SMART MOBILITY

Organize your commute in a sustainable way to the conference venue. Use carpooling with others, or using bicycles, scooters, or hybrid or electric cars.

REDUCE THE USE OF PAPER

We can save forests by avoiding paper consumption and otping for digitalmethods. We prefer digital modes, QR codes and online agendas. If absolutely essential, we use FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper.

HELP SPREAD THE SUSTAINABILITY
It is important for everyone to help spread the concepts of sustainable development. Share best practices and tips, and raise awareness . This is of paramount importance if true environmental awareness is to be raised.

THE DESTINATION

The chosen destination for the “15th International Conference of the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation” is Florence, ranked first among Italian metropolitan cities in 2023 for ecological transition according to the “Green and Blue Index”:

THE ORGANIZING SECRETARIAT – OIC GROUP

In recent years, OIC has made a tangible and innovative commitment to sustainability! From achieving Carbon Neutrality (2023), to relocating its headquarters to reduce emissions, to obtaining ISO 20121 certification and winning the Sustainability Award at the Federcongressi FCE Awards, we have taken every possible step to implement a radical change across all organized events.

THE CONGRESS VENUE

The venue for VISION2025 – the Florence Congress and Exhibition Center – is a major asset in terms of environmental sustainability:

  • Firenze Fiera has obtained ISO 20121 certification
  • Its strategic location minimizes the need for transportation
  • The renovation of the Palazzo degli Affari was carried out with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind
  • Key features of the renovation include:
    • 46% of energy sourced from renewables
    • Reduced indoor electromagnetic pollution
    • 100% soundproofed rooms
    • Renovated panoramic terrace
  • Rainwater reuse, groundwater heat pumps, LED lighting, efficient climate control systems, improved acoustic comfort and soundproofing
  • All rooms were built using sustainable materials and are equipped with eco-chic furnishings and next-generation smart technologies

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

All technologies used are designed to reduce energy consumption (e.g., LED lighting, solar panels, etc.). The Palazzo degli Affari is a modular and fully transformable congress facility, offering solutions that ensure acoustic comfort and multisensory experiences, and is at the forefront of environmental sustainability: renewable energy, eco-friendly materials, and low electromagnetic emissions. To minimize event waste, systematic separation and recycling will be implemented, with on-site waste sorting kits for paper, plastic, and biodegradable materials to ensure proper disposal

USE OF ECO-SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

The VISION2025 event will exclusively use biodegradable, recyclable, or low environmental impact materials for setups and promotional items.

SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

The venue is located in the historic city center and at the crossroads of all major transport links:

  1. Santa Maria Novella train station (100 m)
  2. Tram line T1 (stop at 50 m): connects to the Villa Costanza park-and-ride (direct access from the A1 highway without entering the city)
  3. Tram line T2 (stop at 50 m): connects Florence Airport directly to the city center, the venue, and the congress hotel
  4. OIC has a preferential agreement with Italo to offer train tickets at highly advantageous prices and conditions for all congress participants

SUSTAINABLE FOOD AND BEVERAGE MANAGEMENT

In collaboration with FoodForGood, we have activated a platform for managing food surplus, significantly reducing potential waste from the congress.
Unused food during the event was donated to charitable organizations.
